National Law Journal: Lauren Drake on the Increase in Government Attorneys Eyeing Big Law Jobs

In an election year, we often see increased interest from government attorneys looking to move to private practice - and as the National Law Journal reported, this year is proving no exception.

Reporter Abigail Adcox spoke with Lauren Drake, a partner in Washington, D.C., who said she’s hearing from more lawyers trying to leave government compared to a year ago - and more law firms aiming to bring on government talent.

However, government lawyers without impressive titles or leadership positions may face a tighter job market.

“I’m seeing a greater distinction than I used to, in that respect,” said Drake. “Even more interest for people with a certain level of seniority or title or area of responsibility and less for people that may not have the specialized expertise or leadership position.”

Law firms, Drake told the Journal, "are being more cautious with their investment dollars. They want candidates who are really going to move the needle.”
