City AM Spotlights Surge in London Partner Hiring as Private Equity Demand Grows

City AM has featured insights from our latest Macrae+ Legalscape report in an article exploring the sharp rise in law firm partner hiring in London’s private equity market. The piece highlights how demand for partners with private equity expertise has reached record highs - and how US firms are continuing to drive much of the market’s momentum.

According to the report, lateral partner moves in London surged by more than 130% year-over-year in 2024, with 2025 H1 shaping up to be the busiest first half in recent memory. Notably, 80% of incoming partners joined US firms in the City - a clear sign of the continued transatlantic expansion at the top end of the market.

Siobhán Lewington, a Partner on our London team, commented on the trends: “Private equity is the top priority on every firm’s shopping list because it drives growth across the firm and every law firm leader is laser-focused on growth.”
