Macrae to Sponsor 4th Annual Charlotte E. Ray Lecture & Conference at Howard University School of Law

Macrae is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the 4th Annual Charlotte E. Ray Lecture & Conference, to be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Howard University School of Law. The conference honors the legacy of Charlotte E. Ray — the first African American woman admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia — while creating meaningful connections between the next generation of attorneys and the wider legal profession.

The morning will open with the panel, Seeking Justice in 2026, moderated by Kenneth A. Polite, Partner at Sidley Austin. Panelists include:

  • Professor Ramzi Kassem, Chief Counsel to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani

  • Shaylyn Cochran, Deputy Director of the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law

  • Professor Kristen Clarke of Howard University School of Law

  • Izzy Ramsey of the Law Office of Ismail Ramsey and Former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California

Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown will then deliver the keynote address, followed by a fireside conversation with Dean Roger A. Fairfax, Jr. The conference will conclude with a networking lunch giving student attendees the opportunity to connect directly with attorneys in attendance.

Macrae is proud to support this event alongside sponsors Howard Law Journal, Beveridge & Diamond, Crowell, McCarter & English, Sidley, Solow PLLC, and Steptoe.
