New York: Partner Lateral Market - 2026 Q1 in Review

New York recorded 186 partner moves in 2026 Q1 - up from 161 in 2025 Q1 and 133 in 2024 Q1, the highest opening quarter in three years.

Investment Management & Funds was the standout practice, nearly doubling its Q1 share and rising to third in the rankings for the first time. FS Reg & Insurance fell to its lowest share in the dataset. The AmLaw 25 extended its Q1 hiring run for a third consecutive year, while the AmLaw 100's net gains have compressed sharply over the same period.

Dechert led Q1 gross additions with 12, followed by Sidley at 10, Kirkland and Ropes & Gray at 9 each, and Latham and Paul Weiss at 8 each.
