New Law360 Coverage Highlights Key Insights From Macrae’s 2025 DC Litigation Report

Following the release of our latest Macrae+ Legalscape Litigation Report - Law360 has published an in-depth piece by Alison Knezevich examining the year’s most significant trends in partner movement across the capital’s litigation market.

The article underscores what our data shows: 2025 has been one of the busiest years on record, with 103 litigation partner moves so far - up from 94 in 2024 and more than double the volume seen in 2020. Much of this activity has been driven by:

  • Heightened demand for appellate practitioners, with appellate hires rising to 12% of all moves YTD (up from 4% across 2020–2024)

  • A continued surge in government-to-law firm transitions, which remain a defining feature of the DC market

  • Sustained hiring across antitrust, investigations, and white-collar practices, reinforcing the region’s regulatory core

As Macrae DC’s Justine Donahue and Peggy Bennett note in the piece, firms are investing in talent strategically - prioritizing long-term capability building over short-term fluctuations. The increasing emphasis on appellate experience, in particular, reflects growing litigation complexity and the need to anticipate issues earlier in the dispute lifecycle.
