Nick is a Managing Director at Macrae in Palo Alto, where he places high-performing partners and partner-groups into the Bay Area offices of top-tier U.S. and international law firms. Key to his standout track record of making matches that last are the close attention, honest and informed insight, and expansive market knowledge he offers every candidate as well as his law firm clients.

Nick, who began his legal industry career as a securities litigator in private practice, is driven by a passion for helping fellow attorneys reach their full potential, whether that means taking advantage of an opportunity that aligns with their values and ambitions or staying the course. He aims to help empower – and build lasting relationships with – everyone he advises. He has placed more than 200 attorneys over the last decade and has developed an extensive network that reflects this.

Nick joined Macrae in 2022 after operating his own successful Silicon Valley boutique, Edgewater Search Group, for several years. Prior to founding that firm he spent eight years at global recruiting firm Lateral Link, where he was a Principal and a member of the executive team. Before becoming a recruiter he practiced law at a Chambers-ranked litigation boutique and during law school he clerked for the U.S. Department of State.

In 2023, Nick was recognized by Lawdragon in its annual guide to the “Global 100 Leaders in Legal Strategy & Consulting.” He was selected over multiple years to participate as the California lateral market expert for Harvard Law School "Ask the Experts" advising program.

Nick holds a J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of San Diego School of Law and a B.A. in International Affairs from the University of Colorado. He speaks and reads Mandarin, having lived and worked in China.
