M&A Hiring: Signs of a Selective Turn as Megadeals Rebound

Law360 reports that, even with Q3 data showing a slight year-over-year dip in corporate lateral moves, firms are beginning to make opportunistic additions to their M&A benches as large-cap deals resurface. As Macrae’s Ryan Belville notes, there’s often a built-in lag: “high-level partner deals can take many months to complete from cover to cover,” which means hiring trails visible deal flow.

Deal fundamentals support the shift: global M&A value in the first nine months of 2025 was the highest since 2021, driven by a resurgence in $10B+ transactions - conditions that typically translate into partner-level demand with a delay.
