Reuters: US Legal Sector Jobs Continued to Climb in June

A recent Reuters article by Karen Sloan examines new Bureau of Labor Statistics figures showing the US legal sector added 5,100 jobs in June, pushing legal employment to an all-time high for the third straight month. Legal jobs are up 1.9% over the past 12 months, with March the only month to post a decline during that stretch.

The article also looks at how AI is factoring into the picture, with law firms so far putting people to work on AI-related matters rather than cutting headcount because of them.

Justine Donahue, Partner at Macrae, comments in the piece on both fronts:

"We're not there yet" on AI-related legal job cuts, Donahue said, noting instead that firms are rushing to capitalize on AI work and need people to staff those matters. On the wider hiring picture, she added: "Deals are up and money is flowing. Litigation is as high as it's been — complex civil litigation in particular, which drives all manner of life, from juniors and seniors to vendors and legal supports."
